Glasgow Artist David Shrigley Nominated For The Turner Prize

London, England – Thursday, April 25, 2013

David Shrigley, the artist who makes these adorably morbid dog sculptures has been nominated for the most prestigious art prize England has to offer British artists under 50 years of age.  The Turner Prize.  You can read more about what being nominated for The Turner Prize is like if you read the book 7 Days In The Art World by Sarah Thornton.   The picture above with the little pup I took  at The Independent in 2011 (read on ArtSucks.com), and it was one of the only things I enjoyed about The Independent in 2011.

According to Animal NY  the other nominees are: Lynette Yiadom-Boakye for “Extracts and Verses” at Chisenhale Gallery for paintings; Laure Prouvost for Wantee commissioned with Grizedale Arts at Tate Britain and her installation for the Max Mara Art Prize for Women; and Tino Sehgal for This Variation at documenta (XIII) and These Associations at Tate Modern.

The winner gets $38,000 and bragging rights, but it’s an honor just to be nominated, an honor that comes with an $8,000 consolation prize, which beats the shit out of the Seiko watch and boxed edition of the home game you get for losing on Jeopardy.
