New York, NY – Wednesday, June 12, 2013
This past weekend was the annual Figment NYC on Art Island Governors Island, which is a great excuse to get out into the grass, and walk around in the sun among the trees. There is a ton of art happening all around you, you just have to walk and wonder. In case you missed it, I will highlight 10 things I enjoyed at this year’s Figment NYC.
10) The Mobile Game of Thrones – Iron Throne
Built into a shopping cart, the iron Throne was pushed around the grounds for anyone to grab a seat.
9) Kostume Korner
Hundreds of brand new Halloween costumes were free for the taking (and wearing). I found this monkey headdress, and wore it for the rest of the day. This sort of thing is totally normal at Figment NYC, where New Yorkers let their freak flags fly.
8) The Geodesic Elephant You Can Draw On. I have no idea what this is actually called but I’d call it the “Pachydome.”
7) The Unimpeded View Of The Statue Of Liberty They are restructuring a huge part of the island, which means demolishing old buildings. This left a giant field of rubble, but also a beautifully clear view of Lady Liberty.
6) Painting With Remote Controlled Cars You pick the paint color, and then you drive the car around the canvas.
5) This Bejeweled PugI thought it was a sculpture till it moved a little.
4) Pop DogsA politically motivated piece, which calls to attention the overpopulation of dogs.
3) Kids kicking the shit out of glowing balls.
2) The Milk Jug CloudA building made of milk jugs on the outside and water bottles with blue liquid lining the inside. The highlight of the show.
1)The Hypnotoad. All glory to the Hypnotoad.
