Creative Visionary Patti Smith Gives Words Of Advice To Young Artists

patti-smithNew York, NY – Wednesday, June 19, 2013

Musician, underground rock poet, and creative genius Patti Smith sat down for a one on one conversation about her own experiences in becoming an artist in this six minute video from Louisiana Channel which is edited from a longer conversation, sluiced down to pure gold.

The attitudes of naysayers, the failures, and lack of appreciation for ones work by the masses in the beginning of a career can often stop some people dead in their tracks.  Patti shares some wisdom from having experienced all of that herself and advice for the hard road that lies ahead for any creative person starting out in life.

Screen Shot 2013-06-19 at 7.44.47 AM“Build a good name.” Patti Smith passes on some advice she got early on from novelist William S. Burroughs and passes the advice on to the new generation of artists and writers. “Keep your name clean. Don’t make compromises, don’t worry about making a bunch of money or being successful. Be concerned about doing good work and protect your work.”
