Your NYC Art Weekend Mar.22-24

New York, NY – Artiholics Art Weekender March 22- 24

Looking to hit an art opening sometime either today, or over the weekend in NYC but haven’t got a clue?  I will be out of town, driving up to the Catskills for a little post Armory Week R&R ( Molly Roberson & I are also celebrating the 6 year anniversary of our first date), but that won’t stop me from taking in a lot of local art.

You can look forward to a few feature articles on ArtSucks.com and Artiholics.com about the Mondrian themed room at the Roxbury Motel (we will be living inside a painting for the weekend), a glimpse into the Roxbury, NY Art Scene as I meet some local artists at the Roxbury Arts Center, as well as a day trip to Woodstock for an opening at The Woodstock Artists Association & Museum / WAAM. This should be one hell of a trip.

In the mean time, here is the hit list for the weekend.

1) Brian Leo’s studio installation at DAVID KESTING PRESENTS :

Opening Night Reception Friday March 22, 2013 from 7:00 – 10:00pm

The art above is a shot I took at Fountain art fair of Brian Leo’s work in David Kesting’s booth.  This opening is different, as it will show the intimacies of the artists space in a public setting. The slew of source materials, tables stacked with canvases & paint jars and the constant repeat of Django playing in the corner will give the gallery visitor private insight to the creation process of the artist.

In addition to the visual delicacy of the artists studio, Leo’s I Hear The Droning will conquer the 1200 square feet of gallery space. New works will be highlighted in the front room, while previos years paintings will lead the viewer to the back gallery and into the artists studio.

The showcase will open to the public on Friday night with a guest musical appearance from NSR. Dan Lathrum from Custom American Wine Bar will pour drinks for a thirsty art audience.

2) Nadja Bournonville & Sarah Walker openings at Pierogi

Opening: Fri. March 22, 7-9pm

177 N 9th Street, Brooklyn, New York 11211

March 22 – April 21, 2013
Pierogi is pleased to present the recent photographs of Nadja Bournonville in a series titled A Conversion Act. This new work developed from her exploration into the fascinating factory of Hysteria that existed at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris at the end of the 19th century. Her previous work consisted of a three-part series—To be undone, Amor omnia vincit, and One for every wish—where Bournonville was “creating images from feelings, gestures and objects [and] the process became a way of relating to and internalizing the world…”

Pierogi is pleased to present an exhibition of recent paintings on panel and paper by Sarah Walker. Walker continues to develop visually as well as physically rich surfaces. In these works there is a distinct and new focus where she explores a centralized composition and from this potential narratives emerge.
