Is The Pencil Mightier Than The Mirror? Watch The Dove “Real Beauty” Sketch Experiment

New York, NY – Tuesday, April 16, 2013

It’s fascinating how we perceive ourselves, and how others perceive us.  Three days ago Dove launched a drawing experiment in the form of a YouTube video titled DOVE REAL BEAUTY SKETCHES (watch above) which has already gotten over 1.2 Million views, and for good reason, it’s awesome.

When women describe themselves to a forensic sketch artist (who is unable to see them) their mental picture of their appearance translates into something uglier than how they really look, while when a stranger who has only briefly met them describes that woman to the same sketch artist, the end result is, well, watch the video.

Really profound use of drawing to convey a powerful message.  Bravo Dove.

I imagine if this experiment were done with men, would the result be the polar opposite?
